How the Concrete Steps Calculator Works - Two Methods Compared

Stacked-Rectangle Method

Each step is treated as a rectangle from ground level to the top of that step. Step N volume equals tread depth x (N x riser height) x width. Total step volume is the sum of all step volumes.

Simplified Shortcut

Total run x average height x width treats the stair as a simple triangle. It is fine for rough planning but can miss base mass, platform, carriage, and footing volume.

Carriage Volume

Slope length comes from the Pythagorean theorem: sqrt(total rise squared + total run squared). Carriage volume is slope length x throat depth x width.
